Sunbeams on a Carpet of Lies

Regarding the title… I thought also of “tapestry,” with its arresting spectacle and beguiling beauty; or “canvas,” suggesting painterly creativity or conversely, army fashion. I still like “carpet” better, since it lays the foundation under our feet, where we walk all our days and barely notice.
