When the Overton Window captures "independent media”—first it was "safety" and "science," then "democracy," finally "freedom of speech."
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has come out as a new champion of independent media and freedom of speech. To make clear the global and targeted urgency of our common task, the agency (or its AI writer) has penned a screed (announcing “Press Freedom Day”) that would make Thomas Paine or Louis Riel lurch in their graves.

Leave it to the UN to set the record straight about the “existential crises” humanity faces. First it steers us to the hallowed ground of Agenda 30, with its sacred Sustainable Development Goals, fixated in particular on “the triple planetary crisis—climate change, biodiversity loss, and air pollution.” Air pollution! I almost forgot that was a thing to take action about.
What about war, genocide, fascist governments, fake elections, bioweapons?
The independent press had best confine its efforts to the more pressing issues: “public health, the need to strengthen democracy, to tackle dis/misinformation on digital platforms.”
Nearly hypnotized by the dream of clean air, lulled by the sanitary word salad, we sniff a rat in the cheese of “public health.”
By their deeds we begin to wake to what they mean by “strengthening democracy,” both at home and abroad.
Democracy = Those we fund.
Strengthen = Destroy the opposition.
As for “dis/misinformation,” it’s clear where this is going. One set of facts fits all.
Freedom of the press demands you report those facts faithfully, to the full extent of your independent powers as a servant of the Planet. Remember, it is “reliable information” that is your right and privilege to convey, nothing else!
By the way, if you dare to call yourself an independent journalist, make sure it falls under the purview of “environmental and scientific” advocacy. After all, “independent journalists as well as scientists are crucial actors in helping our societies to separate facts from lies and manipulation in order to take informed decisions, including about environmental policies.”
Finally the cat is out of the bag. We are all “actors” in this charade. And here’s the script. We act like we have the facts, even as the audience and critics pelt us with lies and manipulation. The fourth wall is at risk, which is why we must remember our Director’s mantra. When delivering your lines, stay in character. Embody your “freedom of expression in the context of the current global environmental crisis.” Fourth wall, meet Overton Window.
Strangely, that’s not all. You also have to be true to yourself, your infinitely diverse selves. It’s up to you to identify with the oppressed demographic of your choice, and if there isn’t one suited for your inner narcissist, then feel free to create your own pronoun, and we’ll guarantee it’s enshrined in the Charter.
We’ll use your shining example of freedom of expression as a cornerstone of our mission statement: “to ensure and secure a sustainable future that respects the rights of individuals and their diversity of voices, as well as gender equality.” You will represent the new true meaning of “diverse and independent media.”
It’s a far cry from air pollution… but maybe it’s always been about saving rare birds. To its credit, the UNESCO document refrained from leaking human gas about “carbon emissions.”
Scotland: I Hate Speech
‘Authorities are now being swamped with vexatious complaints exactly as the legislation’s critics predicted, with resources that would have been available to tackle real crime directed elsewhere to patrol speech…. This followed a trial of a separate program set to be implemented across the country to stop investigating crimes like theft and criminal damage.’ —ZeroHedge
Globalist Word Salad, with Philanthropic Dressing
Slick and seductive, contemporary globalist entities all speak the same language, devoid of nutrients but heavy on platitudes and trendy virtue signaling. The sameness of vapid vocabulary reveals such mission statements as indistinguishable from the utterances of artificial intelligence, regurgitating PR talking points in endless loops. Here’s one example from a group coining the oxy-moronic brand, “GreenBiz”:
‘GreenBiz Group is a media and events company that accelerates the just transition to a clean economy. Through events that galvanize, stories that amplify, peer networks that bond and industry-leading analysis, we define markets and advance opportunities at the intersection of business, technology and sustainability. We are a passionate team of people that builds and empowers communities to confront the threats of climate change and solve the thorniest challenges of our time.
‘GreenBiz recognizes the inextricable link between climate change and social change and works across its platforms to connect the dots between equity, inclusion and sustainability by centering justice as a cornerstone of a clean economy. We recognize the power of our platform and actively work to be intersectional in our content by prioritizing Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) across our conference programs and editorial coverage.’ —GreenBiz
Bloody Brownshirted Bolsheviks
The new Brownshirted Bolsheviks, just like the old Brownshirted Bolsheviks
A Time for True Speech
‘True speech emerges from a place hidden behind the harness of our outer ideal image, from a place hidden behind the veil of appearances. If there is one way to define what Truth is, then is that it is a kind of speech which penetrates time and time again through what I call the veil of appearances.’ —Mattias Desmet
Language affects consciousness, so yeah, a deep battleground. And, "clean economy", oxymoron, word salad or what? though btw how did salad get such a bad name? Seems like carnivore bias ; )
